How to Make a Mummy Halloween Costume

Sometimes the best Halloween costumes are the simplest and easiest ones. For example, dressing up like a Mummy for halloween might not win you any points for originality, but you will definitely save time and money on making your own costume. Not to mention you don't need to pay for shipping as though you had bought a costume online. But how exactly would one go about making their own Halloween costumes, especially how to make a Mummy Halloween costume?

Dressing up like a Mummy for Halloween is one of the simplest costumes, but you first need to decide on what kind of mummy you want to be. Do you want to be a mummified egyptian or just someone who happened to be mummified and woken up? For the first one, you will want to read up on egyptian lore a little bit, and maybe decide to walk like an Egyptian for the whole night. In the later case, you are free to create your mummy costume following the threads of your imagination. Now what kind of materials are you going to need at home in order to make this last minute mummy costume for halloween? Do it yourself costumes are the best when all you need is an old white sheet that you can cut up, or some gauze or even some toilet paper for the really last minute!

How to Make a Mummy Costume out of Sheets

To make your mummy costume using an old white sheet, simply lay the sheet out on a flat surface like the floor. Then cut long and semi thin strips of material. Ideally you would like to cut the strips so that you have only a few long pieces of material to work with, so that you don't need to worry about tying each piece onto yourself. After you've done this step, simply get dressed in a comfortable pair of old clothes, preferably white or possibly black. Then start winding the pieces of cloth around you, using clothes pins where needed to keep things tied properly.

How to Make a Mummy Costume out of Gauze

Another way to make a Mummy Costume is to use gauze. You can buy gauze in many places, or even get it from your first aid kit, if you happen to have a big one. The cool thing is that if anyone happens to get hurt during their crazy Halloween partying or Trick or Treating, you will have gauze on hand and you will be able to mobilize the person. Now back to the costume making: it's now similar to the other way of making mummy costumes: you start from one of your extremities and start winding the gauze around you, pinning the end of the ribbon to your clothing. If it happens that you don't have enough gauze to cover your body, try covering most of your upper body and leaving the bottom of your legs and feet only slightly covered: you can say the rest of the mummifying material fell off as you rose from your tomb!
